Chanel Rouge Distinctive (842) Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Colour ($40.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a medium-dark orange-coral with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage paired with a lightweight, spreadable consistency that was more watery and thin but still managed to go on evenly. It kept its coverage level in the first layer. The formula quickly dries to a transfer-resistant finish that feels flexible and relatively comfortable. This shade wore well for four and a half hours and felt non-drying over time.

The formula is supposed to have “ultra-intense, ultra-matte, long-wearing lip color” that “fuses” for “lightweight” and “comfortable coverage.” The coverage was more semi-opaque than “ultra-intense,” but the finish was flat and matte after the product dried. A second layer could be applied for more pigmentation (once the initial layer is set).
The initial texture was thin, watery, and more fluid than I expected, and it almost seemed more like a blotted effect after it dried down. After drying down, the product had more stretch and marginal flexibility, making it more comfortable to wear and lightweight. I would recommend exfoliating before applying this formula to ensure a smoother application.
They lasted between five and six hours and felt non-drying for the most part. There was a very subtle, floral scent but no discernible taste.

Chanel Rouge Imprevu (844) Rouge Allure Ink Matte Liquid Lip Colour ($40.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a brighter, pinky-red with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in one layer, which could be built up by applying a second coat on top (but waiting for the initial layer to dry).
The liquid lipstick had a smooth, fragile consistency that felt watery but had a little more substance, allowing the product to spread across my lips but go on evenly overall. It stayed on well for five hours and felt non-drying over time.
