The incident of fire at the Serum Institute took place at Manjri Plant. (ANI). Fire breaks out at Serum Institute: A fire broke out on the second floor of the Serum Institute building in Pune. Fifteen fire tenders are at the site to douse the fire. According to reports, five people were inside the building when the fire broke out. Of these, four have been rescued. The site where the fire broke out in an under-construction building at Serum Institute of India. The Pune Mayor has informed us that the building where the fire broke out does not house Covishield, a vaccine approved by the Government of India for coronavirus vaccination. The Covid-19 vaccine and vaccine manufacturing plant are safe. So far, no injuries have been reported.
Speaking to India Today TV, chief fire officer Prashant said the fire department received the first call at 2.45. He said 15 fire tenders were currently at the spot to douse the fire. He said the fire was on three floors, 4, 5, and 6th. The officer said four people had been rescued but could not confirm if anyone else was trapped inside the building. The cause of the fire is yet to be investigated.

Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawalla said he was focused on rescuing one or two people who might still be stuck in the building. “I don’t care about anything else at the moment. So I wouldn’t want to comment on anything else. We are looking at trying to get these people out first. Then will assess the damage.”
Efforts are being made to douse the fire and rescue the other person trapped inside the building, but a thick layer of black smoke makes it difficult for firefighters to complete the rescue operation. The incident of fire at the Serum Institute took place at Manjri Plant. It will not affect the production of vaccines; ANI reported citing sources.
Maharashtra CMO says that chief minister Uddhav Thackeray is in touch with Pune Municipal Commissioner and taking complete on-the-ground updates. He has directed state machinery to coordinate and ensure the situation is controlled. One NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) team has been moved to the Serum Institute of India.
Serum Institute is one of the largest vaccine manufacturers in the world. The serum manufactures the Covishield vaccine, approved by the Centre for Covid-19.
