YSL Beige Instinct (304) The Slim Velvet Radical Matte Lipstick ($39.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a dusty, medium coral with moderate, warm undertones and a satin finish. The texture was smooth, velvety, and denser without being too firm, so the lipstick was still applied in a single stroke without tugging. It had an opaque color payoff in one layer, which spread evenly to my lips and didn’t settle noticeably (in person) in my lip lines. It wore well for five hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

The formula is supposed to have “full coverage” with a “long-lasting semi-matte color” that has “creamy comfort.” They were very pigmented with a moderately dense, creamy, velvety consistency without sliding around. The substance/density of the product helped the product sit more smoothly on my lips and helped them be less prone to emphasizing lip texture and settling into my lip lines.
The lipsticks were comfortable to apply, and while the diamond-shaped lipstick was unusual, I did not find it challenging to work with. Most shades lasted at least five hours, with some lasting six to seven hours and some staining behind. They had a fruity, floral scent but no discernible taste. The formula felt lightly hydrating over time.

YSL Orange Surge (305) The Slim Velvet Radical Matte Lipstick ($39.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a medium orange with warmer, yellower undertones and a satin finish. It was intensely pigmented with a smooth, more velvety consistency that was dense but not firm or stiff in the tube, so it glided across my lips comfortably. It lasted nicely for six hours and was lightly moisturizing while worn.
