MAC Thanks It’s MAC & Can’t Dull My Shine Lustreglass Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches

by Joseph K. Clark

The texture was lightweight, smooth, and lightly emollient with good glide. However, it seemed more prone to settling into my lip lines, which wasn’t initially noticeable (except in the close-up photo) but was more evident in person after two hours of wear. This shade stayed on decently for three hours and felt lightly moisturizing over time.

Formula Overview

$22.00/0.1 oz. – $220.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have a “sheer, buildable color” that is moisturizing while also being long-wearing with “six hours” of shine and “eight hours” of color.

Lustreglass Lipsticks

First and foremost, these have an unexpectedly long long-wearing claim. The wear ranged from three to four hours, which was in line with other, more luminous formulas of similar coverage level and was a little longer than the average Lustre lipstick in the past (though more consistent with recently released Lustres). It is not shocking that they did not wear close to eight hours. Eight hours of wear is a feat for any lipstick, let alone one that is sheerer, more luminous, and hydrating.

The updated take on the Lustre finish is more emollient, creamier, and has more consistent coverage. It is still a lighter-weight, thinner consistency relative to MAC’s other lipsticks and most other lipstick formulas. The colors brought back in the new procedure were consistent with the prior versions.

Most of the shades applied evenly didn’t seem to catch or emphasize texture imperfections on my lips and weren’t prone to settling into my lip lines. That being said, the current range is heavier on mid-tones, and it is often very light shades that can be the culprits of both.

The coverage ranged from semi-sheer to medium, and most shades were buildable to semi-opaque, though they tended to wear down to more medium coverage within an hour or so of wear. I found that once some of the shine wore down, e.g., if one drank from a glass of water or blotted lightly, the remaining color was more like the initial product layer.

They were vanilla-scented but had no discernible taste.

MAC Can’t Dull My Shine Lustreglass Sheer-Shine Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium-dark brown with moderate, warm undertones and a glossy, cream finish. It had medium, buildable pigmentation, as marketed, that applied evenly and smoothly across my lips. The texture was lightweight and slightly firmer in the tube but quickly warmed up and glided across my lips. It wore well for four hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.
